Co-sponsored by SACUBO and the University of Kentucky, the College Business Management Institute (CBMI) offers an intensive course of study in business and financial management for administrators of colleges and universities. Ranging from entry level to advanced, approximately 50 courses will be taught during CBMI 2024 by distinguished faculty who are practicing administrators and leaders in their fields.

CBMI is designed to provide participants with an overview of current issues and procedures applicable to institutions of higher education large and small, public and private. Individuals participate in one week of instruction each summer for three years to earn a certificate of completion. Over 700 business officers and administrators, representing 230 institutions from 31 states, attended CBMI in 2023.

There is no prerequisite to attend CBMI.

Objectives

CBMI is designed to give participants the opportunity to:

  • Gain a broader perspective of higher education business administration
  • Discuss the latest issues and topics in higher education
  • Learn how other institutions deal with administrative problems
  • Develop professional relationships with colleagues at other institutions
  • Prepare for a promotion

To provide this broad perspective, each course you take may not be specifically related to your field.

Faculty

CBMI faculty includes presidents, vice presidents or vice chancellors, and other key faculty and administrators of prominent colleges and universities across the nation. Corporate executives also make up the CBMI faculty. The distinguished instructors are practicing administrators and leaders in their fields. They are actively involved with professional associations such as SACUBO, NACUBO, NASPA, APPA, CUPA, NACUA, NACAS, ACUHO and URMIA. The faculty receives feedback through participant evaluations which enable them to improve their instruction each year.


Treasury Management Track

For higher education treasury managers and staff members interested in treasury concepts, we are pleased to announce the Treasury Institute of Higher Education has partnered with the SACUBO’s College Business Management Institute to provide a Treasury Management track within CBMI. The Treasury Track includes the following subject areas, totaling 24hours of instruction:

  • Fundamentals of Operating Investments
  • Fundamentals of Endowment Investments
  • Introduction to Capital Finance
  • Advanced Capital Financing
  • Financial Asset and Liability Management
  • Stewardship of Gift Funds
  • PCI Compliance
  • Current Issues & Trends in Strategic Management

Upon completion of the courses, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Treasury Institute of Higher Education. Participants may complete all the Treasury Track courses during one week of CBMI. The Treasury Institute is also offering scholarships to cover CBMI registration on a first come, first serve basis. CPE Information

CBMI is an excellent opportunity to earn continuing professional credits.  Earn CPE credits as you attend courses taught by distinguished faculty who are practicing administrators and leaders in their fields, and network with colleagues from colleges and universities of every size and description.  Participants can earn up to 28 hours of CPE each summer for three years as they work to earn a certificate of completion.
