SACUBO Distinguished Service Award

SACUBO is now accepting nominations for the 2025 Distinguished Service Award. This award is given annually to recognize an individual in the SACUBO region for his or her distinguished service to higher education in the field of business and financial management. The recipient of this year's award will be recognized at the 2025 Annual Meeting on April 13–15, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Miami in Miami, Florida. 

Awards will be made at the selection committee's discretion and with the approval of the SACUBO Board of DirectorsDo you know an individual in the SACUBO region who deserves to be considered for this award?  Guidelines and Eligibility

  • Nominees must be contributing members of our professional community and must be, or have been, directly associated with managing resources in higher education.
  • Nominees must show mature and effective professional skills, leadership ability, and vision.
  • Nominees may not be currently serving on the SACUBO Board, staff, or Distinguished Service Committee.

Awards will be made at the selection committee's discretion and with the approval of the SACUBO Board of Directors. It is not required that the award be given annually.


2024 Recipient

Susan Maddux
Furman University

Susan Maddux is the recipient of the 2024 Distinguished Service Award. Susan has served in various positions on the SACUBO Board, including as SACUBO President in 2020–2022. She also served on the NACUBO Board from 2019 through 2023.

Susan joined Furman University as Vice President for Finance and Administration in November 2018. She previously served as Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer at Presbyterian College, Controller then Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Converse College, and as a certified public accountant at Ernst & Young. Susan serves as a volunteer coach with Special Olympics and on the David’s Table advisory Board.

Susan is viewed as a true servant leader, someone who is always there to lend a hand and encourage others, and a friend and mentor to many.
